TB5 - IR Geo Stationary Orbital Satellite

Thunderbird 5 is International Rescue's geo-stationary orbital satellite. It is
used for monitoring radio frequencies for distress signals. It is usually seen to
be manned by John Tracy, although we are informed in-series that he takes turns
with his brother, Alan and sometimes even Scott on one-month shifts.
Thunderbird 5 is one of, if not the, most important of International Rescue's
machines. It has a number of radios covering most frequencies, and speakers that
allow the operator to listen to incoming radio signals. Without its sensitive
equipment, calls for help could not be detected rendering the whole organisation
useless. Thunderbird 5 houses a duplicate control room, used if the main control
room is damaged or out of action. Computer systems are independently powered via
the adjacent solar energy panels and all data is duplicated from the primary
systems.
Like all the other Thunderbirds, it also has the capability to transmit and
receive both audio and video.
Transport to and from Thunderbird 5 is performed using Thunderbird 3, which can
dock using a custom-designed airlock.
In addition to the spacious control room that features the sensitive listening
equipment, it has been observed to have a bedroom where the crew can rest when
not on-duty. Rescue calls detected by the station's computer are broadcast to the
bedroom for attention of the operator. Furthermore, the Haynes Thunderbirds
Manual says there's more to it than just the bedroom; there's space there for
more crew members if the need arises, along with other accommodation areas to
make Thunderbird 5 John's man-cave.

Gerry Anderson, MBE was an English television and film producer, director, writer and occasional voice artist. He was known for his futuristic television programmes, especially his 1960s productions filmed with "Supermarionation" marionette puppets containing electric moving parts.
Anderson's first television production was the 1957 Roberta Leigh children's series The Adventures of Twizzle. Supercar (1961–62) and Fireball XL5 (1962) followed later, both series breaking into the US television market in the early 1960s. In the mid-1960s Anderson produced his most successful series, Thunderbirds. Other television productions of the 1960s include Stingray and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons.

Thunderbirds is a British science-fiction television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, filmed by their production company AP Films (APF) and distributed by ITC Entertainment. It was produced between 1964 and 1966 using a form of electronic marionette puppetry (dubbed "Supermarionation") combined with scale model special effects sequences. Two series were filmed, comprising a total of 32 episodes. Production ceased after Lew Grade, the Andersons' financial backer, failed in his efforts to sell the programme to American network television.
Widely considered to be the Andersons' most popular and commercially successful series, Thunderbirds has received particular praise for its effects directed by Derek Meddings and musical score composed by Barry Gray. It is also well remembered for its title sequence, which opens with an often-quoted countdown by actor Peter Dyneley who voiced the character of Jeff: "5, 4, 3, 2, 1: Thunderbirds Are Go!" A real-life rescue service, the International Rescue Corps, is named after the organisation featured in the series.
